LONDON - The experts warn, a satellite navigation device on the accident risk of drivers of motor vehicles.

Mention the latest data, approximately 78 percent of accidents caused by driver carelessness. Psychologist at Lancaster University and Royal Holloway, University of London conducted an experiment to test the effects of hazards on the satellite navigation car navigation systems.

Using phone while driving is banned in the UK as well as several other countries. This is because mobile phone use can divert the driver's concentration and lead to accidents.

Now, the researchers wanted to examine other factors that could cause a car accident, including satellite navigation systems are used increasingly popular lately.

In this study, scientists analyze how the drivers handle the information they received from the satellite navigation systems and how they respond.

"At the end of the experiment, we see clearly that the use of navigation systems in cars has the potential to interfere with memory, concentration and attention and affect vehicle performance," said one researcher Polly Dalton, as quoted from the Telegraph, Monday (28/12/2009).

It is estimated there are approximately 14 million drivers who use satellite navigation system. Based on the data in 2008, survey of 2000 motorists to the conclusion that the satellite navigation system makes one of five people have faltered when the vehicle in a busy street. Satellite navigation system is also responsible for the condition of the vehicle can suddenly turn itself.

China Shoots GPS Satellite Into Orbit

Seeking to create an alternative to the United States' global positioning system, China is busy building its own GPS network. On Wednesday, it launched the second satellite designed to support the system. It will need 30 more to complete the system by 2015.


China fired into orbit Wednesday its second satellite in a program to build an alternative to the global positioning system based on U.S. satellites.

The geostationary satellite is one of a series being slung into space to form the Beidou, or "Compass," navigation system, the official Xinhua News Agency said, calling the system a "crucial part of the country's space infrastructure."

Home-Grown GPS
The system is touted by China as an alternative to the U.S. satellite GPS More about global positioning system network, the dominant positioning system, although it isn't clear how far China has progressed in bringing the project to fruition.

Although the U.S. government says China has already launched at least five navigation satellites, Xinhua said Wednesday's launch, which was fired off at 00:16 a.m. (1616 GMT) from the southwestern Xichang launching center using a Long March 3C rocket, was only the second directly tied to the global navigation system.

It said China's current satellite navigation system only covers China and adjacent regions.

The launch comes almost exactly two years after the first Beidou satellite was placed into orbit, Xinhua said.

Competition and Cooperation
Xinhua said 30 more satellites would be needed before 2015 to complete the system, with 10 going up by the end of next year.

China has been both a competitor and a partner in global positioning system efforts. While seeking to operate independently of the U.S. system, it has invested in the European Union's Galileo satellite navigation system and is talking about participating in Russia's GLONASS system.

When viewed as a method of data transport, wireless technology appears very similar to wired technology. The methods of connection and ranges of service available vary in wireless technology just as they do in wired technology. Home telephones with a wireless handset have a more limited range than cellular phones; infrared transmissions have a more limited range than radio-wave (including microwave) transmissions. Different types of wireless solutions can communicate ten feet, ten miles, or with a satellite in orbit.

According to its name, wireless local area network is a link between some unit computers without using cable as a media. In this case, used a micro radio wave through air as a media with the frequency 2,4 GHz. This Frequency is a frequency ISM (Industrial, Medical & Science) where Indonesia and most state in world have ratified the agreement agreeing using of above mentioned frequency for the sake of industry, health, and science. The existence of the international agreement minimizes the problem of interference frequency with the facility of military and or governmental.

Frequency use 2,4 Ghz for the WLAN by empiric have given very good result especially for the tropical zone, considering wheatear condition which relative stable and at least magnetic trouble from earth. Optimal reach which can be reached till 25 km, on condition that each antenna transmitter and receiver could 'see' each other (good of line of sight, LOS).
